In preparation for reading Oscar Wilde’s play The Importance of Being Earnest, it will help if we have a little background on the Victorian time period. The era of Victorian England (time period to be filled in by you) is so different from the period in which you are living that you would shake your head in wonder. Not in the same way as you have over the other time periods we have studied, perhaps, but in new and unique wonderment: “They did what?” “They believed what?” “They knew enough to invent that, but they thought what?”
A new social and moral standard arose for men and women, new social class divisions arose, and new advancements were made in science, industry, agriculture, the arts, and technology.
The Task:
Your assignment is to explore some or all of the following websites, or possibly other, good, websites you might find (please, no Wikipedia), and then working on your own using PowerPoint, Prezi, SlideRocket, or RockYou, you will create a presentation that you will present to the class. You must include the following:
At least ten (15) slides
At least one (1) visual image (photo, graphic, video, etc.) per page
You must cover at least seven (7) of the following areas of Victorian society:

Gender issues (or, specifically, the role of women in society)

Queen Victoria

Literature & Authors of the Era
